Is sinjal għal LAMPUKA għandu żewġ partijiet: (jew i) L-ewwel isir s-sinjal għal SAJJAR. Id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ X bil-werrej imiss mas-saba’ l-kbir. L-id tiċċaqlaq mill-polz l-ewwel lejn ġenb imbagħad lejn ieħor. (jew ii) Imbagħad isir is-sinjal għal ĦUTA. Id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 u, bil-pala ta’ l-id tħares ‘il ġewwa, timxi f’linja kkurvata orizzontali ’l barra u ’l ġewwa fid-direzzjoni opposta. Ix-xufftejn ġieli jieħdu l-forma għall-vokali ‘u’. Ġieli l-ewwel parti ssir wara t-tieni parti.
Varjant ta’ dan is-sinjal jinkludi s-sinjal għal ĦUTA imbagħad fit-tieni parti id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ L bil-pala ta’ l-id ’il barra titqiegħed dritta quddiem l-ispalla bħal meta wieħed ikun qed jispelli. Din hija l-ewwel ittra tal-kelma ‘lampuka’ bil-Malti.

This sign for DOLPHIN FISH is made up of two parts: (jew i) The first part is the sign for COOK made with one hand in the shape of X with the index finger touching the thumb. The hand swivels from one side to the other from the wrist. (jew ii) The second part is the sign for FISH. One hand takes the shape of 5, palm facing inwards, moving in and out in a curved horizontal line towards the opposite direction. The lip pattern is often that for the vowel ‘u’. The first part is sometimes made after the second part.
A variant of this sign is made with the sign for FISH followed by one hand taking the shape of L with the palm facing outwards. The hand is placed in front of the shoulder as for spelling. This is the first letter of the Maltese word ‘lampuka’ for dolphin fish.
The sign for SMALL or for BIG is made with both hands facing each other in a horizontal direction in the shape of C. The distance between the hands depends on the size of the dolphin fish. The sign for DOLPHIN FISH is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.
The sign for MANY is used to signal the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of Ċ. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several dolphin fish were actually being put into that space.
When the noun DOLPHIN FISH is used as the subject of a verb of movement, one hand takes the shape of 5 with palm facing inwards, becomes the classifier, moving according to the action.
